Human Personality Types and Software Interface Design: HCI from a Different Perception

    Get PDF
This research discusses the issues of the incorporation of human personality types in the design of human computer interfaces. LEONARD, Let's Explore our personality based on Openness, Neutral, Analytical, Relational and Decisive is a personality instrument to conduct personality tests on human beings. The description and characteristics of LEONARD are also presented. An offshoot study was conducted on selected respondents to determine the appropriateness of incorporating LEONARD. This study, too, addresses the users' satisfaction of the incorporation of LEONARD in designing user interfaces. This is followed by a discussion of how the incorporation of LEONARD impacts user interface design. A conclusion is drawn on the appropriateness of human personality types and software interface design

This paper discusses the standards and guidelines of user interface features in web-based applications for the different personality types of people. An overview of human computer interaction and human  personality types is described. LEONARD, Let’s Explore our personality type based on Openness (O), Neutral (N), Analytical (A), Relational (R) and Decisive (D) is the model used to determine the different personality types for this study. The purpose is to define user personality profiles and to establish guidelines for the graphical user interface. The personality inventory and a user interface questionnaire were administered to university students. Interview sessions were also conducted and parts of the interviews with the university students were used to validate the results obtained from the questionnaires. The analysis of the students' personality types identified five main groups. The results suggest that users do have definable expectations concerning the features of web applications. This profile served as basis for the guidelines of web features for the graphical user interface design for the particular user groups

The Use of Fuzzy Logic System in Determining Preferences toward GUI Design for E-Commerce Website

This paper presents the findings of a survey that correlate human personality types with the preferences towards graphical user interface (GUI) design for e–commerce website. Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) inventory is the personality instrument used to conduct personality test on human beings in this study. The targeted sample is the students from UCSI University KL Campus. They are first group into one of the sixteen MBTI personality types, and then they are further grouped into one of the four Myers–Briggs temperaments. 2 types of surveys are imposed: the Personality and Preferences Questionnaire (PPQ) which aim to figure out the correlation; and User Evaluation Questionnaire (UEQ) which is conducted online is used to collect user feedbacks on the resultant website prototypes. Fuzzy logic theory together with the data collected during PPQ is implemented into ANFIS systems to come out with inferences about whether or not the suggested correlation exists. Conclusion drawn from this study is that human's personality type does affect some of the preference towards website elements (website layout and font type used), but not all

Culture heritage is identity of country, community and group of people. Intangible culture is a common practice, in the community. Continuously  re-created and transmitted. However, culture can only have continuity if people enjoy the conditions to produce and re-created.  This paper try to identify the factor of contributing archiving intangible heritage before develop a model as a guideline to archive culture heritage especially intangible heritage via ICT exploitation. This standard model as a kick-start of intangible study and also as guidelines for culture institution in Malaysia to archiving their intangible heritage and make it available for other researcher and the future generation
